FIVE EASY RULES

Respect other people

Lots of people come to the Garden, and we all have to make sure it's a safe
and fun place for everyone. This means -

No pushing or shoving or rough playing.
No name-calling or teasing.
No spraying people with the hose.
Treat other people the way you want to be treated.

Respect the plants & animals

The Garden is full of living things we need to take care of.

Don't pick anything without asking an adult.
Don't pull up plants, unless you're helping an adult weed the Garden.
Don't ever hurt or tease any animals in the Garden - even spiders! If you see
a scary bug, tell an adult.
Don't ever step on plants or break branches.
Don't go inside the pond area without an adult.
Don't throw anything into the pond, or take anything out of the pond.

Keep things neat

All of us who use the Garden have to help keep it clean.

If you drop a candy wrapper, or anything else, pick it up and put it in the trash.
If you see trash on the ground, pick it up. Ask an adult where to throw your trash.
Don't take anything from the tool shed. If you want something from the shed,
ask an adult.
Don't use any of the Garden tools without asking - even if it looks like no
one is using them. (The Garden hose IS a tool, not a toy!)

Be careful

Sometimes kids get excited and start doing unsafe things without meaning to. That's
why kids aren't allowed in the Garden when there are no adults inside. We don't
want anyone to get hurt.

No bike-riding inside the Garden. If you bring your bike inside, leave it near
the front fence.
No climbing trees, or any of the Garden structures including sheds, fences, the
grape arbor, gazebo, and the metal structure over the patio.
Don't run with sticks or tools in your hand.
Don't run when there are lots of people in the Garden, especially kids littler
than you.
If all you want to do is run around and play tag or hide-and-go-seek, go to the
playground.
If an adult sees you doing something that's dangerous, he or she will tell you
to stop - not to ruin your fun, but to keep you from hurting yourself or anyone
else.

Be responsible

It's up to you to follow the rules. If you don't, you have to leave the
Garden for the rest of the day. If you keep breaking the rules, you'll have
to leave the Garden for a longer time - maybe for good.

If you want to come into the Garden without your parents or another grownup, you
need to ask one of the adult Garden members if they'll watch you. If they won't,
you have to wait until an adult can come in with you.
If you're acting up and not listening, you'll have to leave until you can
bring an adult with you. No arguments!

You can play in the Garden as much as you want, as long as you're safe and
respectful.
