On the first day of the season when nature returns to rest in the earth, lights will surround the ring of volunteer plants, now entering dormancy, which has sprouted from bare ground, grown and set seed since spring. Hot cider will be consumed again, and candle flames, like the other lights of the solstice season will be a reminder that life continues in suspension waiting for spring.

Gaia's Ring began its evolution on the Spring Equinox, Wednesday, March 21st. The installation involves turning soil, opening the earth to seeding in and growth of volunteer plants, construction among the growing plants of sculptural elements made from found materials, and gatherings to mark each season. The first public gathering marked the start of both the spring season and of the installation. Participants turned earth, rang bells, and sipped cider.
